How do mobile wheel alignments work?
At VTA Valet, we understand that your life is very busy (and that traffic across Northern Virginia doesn’t always make it easy to sneak out to the mechanic on your lunch break!). That’s why VTA Valet provides mobile alignments for motorists through the NoVA region.
Simply schedule an appointment now and we will pick up your car, leave you a loaner, correct your wheel alignment issues at the nearest Virginia Tire & Auto shop and deliver your car back to you when the work is complete. Mobile alignments — what could be easier?
What can cause my car to go out of alignment?
There are many ways your car may lose its wheel alignment. Hit a pothole on the Little River Turnpike? Bump fenders in Centreville Square? Steer a little too hard to the curb while grabbing a parking spot in Falls Church? Any of these minor mishaps could misalign your auto’s suspension and require mobile wheel alignments.
An accident or small driving mistake isn’t always the cause of an alignment problem, though. Sometimes age and use can damage your car’s suspension and, over time, cause your tires to slowly lose alignment. Either way, mobile alignments can solve the problem quickly and easily for you.
How do I know if need a mobile car alignment?
Does your steering wheel vibrate when you drive? Does your auto pull to one side of the road? That shuddering sensation in your wheel, and the drifting sensation as you drive, means that you may need to get your wheels aligned. Drivers who need to keep their steering wheel at an angle just to motor straight ahead should schedule mobile alignments.
Irregular tire wear is another red flag. Take a look at your tires — are the treads wearing unevenly? Some specific issues to look for:
Heel/toe tire wear. Commonly identified by feeling the tire with your hand and noticing a sensation called “sawteeth.”
- The toe is the angle that your wheel makes in relation to the perpendicular (side-to-side) direction of your car; positive toe (toe in) means a front wheel is pointing in towards the engine, while negative toe (toe out) means the wheel is pointing towards the curb.
- The saw tooth feel is created because one side of the tire tread is wearing faster than the other.
Feathering. Feathering — scuffing across the tread — is caused by changes in the caster or camber angles. The caster angle is the angle of the steering axis to the vertical axis that runs through the tire to the ground, while the camber angle is the measurement of the vertical alignment of your car’s wheels in relation to a flat surface.
One-sided shoulder wear. One side of your tire is wearing down faster than the other. This is may also be caused by caster and camber alignment issues.
